Add Item

Items are added to a section for additional information purposes. Each Item will display as a link on the Live Site (Public Side) and clicking it will take visitors to the additional information.

Add Item

The fields seen after clicking on "Add Item" are different depending on which content type is chosen. Here is more information about selecting the right content type for your information. Items will generally appear at the bottom of the Main Content Area of your website.

For a Basic Item you will see the screen shown below after you click on the green Add Item button shown above. Do not forget to fill out the Body.

  • Headline - The text that you type here will be both the title of the item and the link that appears on the Live Site. For example, if the Item has been created to store meeting agendas from 2012, you should enter "Meeting Agendas: 2012" or something similar in the Headline.
  • Summary - This area is for a brief description of what someone might expect to find if clicking on the Item link on the Live Site. It is not meant to hold all of the information and content that will go in the Item. The content in the Summary will appear on the same page as the link to the Item. This is an optional field, you may have situations where it is best to leave the Summary blank.
  • Body - Click the link located on the left hand side of the screen to access the Body. This is where the real content for the Item belongs. Make sure to fill this area out when creating an Item. Any content that you place in the Body will be shown on a new page after someone clicks on the Item link on the Live Site. If you leave this area blank, then the visitor will be taken to a blank page when they click on the Item link.

Below you will see a sample Item. Notice the Headline and Summary appear on this page, but you must click on the link to see the rest of the information that was typed into the Body.

To change the order of Items on a page, simply Drag-and-Drop them, just like Sections. If the Item is in an Events or News content type, the date you put in for the Item determines the order.
