Events
The Events content type is used to enter specific events and can also populate a Calendar for convenient viewing by your site visitors. Using the Events content type allows you to control when the event should automatically 'roll off' the live site ('rolling off' means the event goes from 'on' to 'off' when the event is completed). This helps keep your site free from outdated content. Click on Add Item to create a new event.
- Enter a Title - The name of the event.
- Date/Time of Start - What date and time the event starts.
- Start Time - Choose how the date/time displays on the public side of the web site. You can also set them not to display.
- Date/Time of End - What date and time the event ends.
- End Time - Choose how the date/time displays on the public side of the web site. You can also set them not to display. Note: The end date/time must be set to work properly even if it will not be displaying on the live site.
- Is this a recurring event? - Check the box if you want to copy this event to new dates (e.g. a regularly held council or board meeting).
Additional event information in the box on the left of the event screen. - Summary - A text box for general information
- Description - A text box for general information
- Location - Has a text box for location name, address, city, state and zip.
- Direction - A text box for general information
- Contact Information - A text box for general information.
Tips to remember:
- The Events content type is date/time sensitive. After an event is over it will roll off the site unless you choose to have expired events display.
- Even if you choose not to display a date or time on the public side, you will still need to set a specific date and time for the roll off feature to work properly.
- To display the events in a calendar instead of a list: In the events section click on Configure Section at the bottom. Change the display as calendar to yes. This same location allows you to show past events and order of events.
- To copy an event that occurs regularly (e.g. a council or board meeting), check the box for 'Is this a recurring event?' Follow directions carefully to make 'copies' of the original event, choosing new dates for the event (time, location, etc. stay the same). Remember that attachments don't follow to the new copies, and that new events 'stand alone' from the original so subsequent changes to the original don't change the copies.
