Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website in a search engine's "organic", or unpaid, search results. In general, the earlier and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's users.

How can I get my site to appear in search engine results?

The process of "optimizing" your website to appear (and perform well) in search engine results is quite complicated*, but there is a relatively easy way to make improvements using the GovOffice CMS.

By simply entering keywords and phrases, specific to your community, in the Title, Description and Keywords fields located in the Design Center, your site will be better identified by all of the major search engines, and should improve your search engine ranking.

Additionally, you can create Friendly URLs for sections. These are Web addresses that are easy for search engines to understand.

Your search engine ranking can also improve when other sites link to yours. Reach out to organizations, businesses, etc. in your community (or surrounding area) and ask them to provide a link to the city’s website.
